I have a nvidia egpu (RTX4080) PCIE GEN 3@4x connected via thunderbolt.
I used egpu-switcher to configure X11 and wayland works out of box.
Gnome and plasma are both very laggy on X11, wayland is even worse.
They remain barely usable.
No process seems to use excessive cpu.
However the GPU usage is unusually high all the time.
It stays at roughly 40% when just viewing the desktop with no program being open.
When I open Factorio or Astroneer (just the main menu) the GPU usage of /usr/lib/Xorg or kwin_wayland goes to 100% and stays there even after exiting the game.
The desktop is even laggier afterwards.
With testufo on wayland in chromium I get 9-15 fps tops.
On X11 I get the full "144fps" but its clearly less than 60fps.
Also qt apps and windows seem to be more affected than other applications such as firefox, chromium or alacritty.
There are no errors in dmesg.
Also no program has crashed on me yet.
Only the performance is very bad.
I have no idea how to troubleshoot this.
Any recommendation to profile, check logs or troubleshoot are appreciated.
Here are some more specs:
* Linux 6.11.9-zen1-1-zen
* KDE Plasma 6.2.3
* i7-1165G7
* nvidia-driver: 565.57.01

For anyone stumbling over this.
I opened nvtop.
There I noticed that most applications were running on the integrated gpu.
And there was lots of PCIE traffic.
When the display is set to something higher than 1080p@60Hz the bandwidth got maxed out.
Program windows had to be copied from integrated to dedicated all the time which caused the issues.
In the end the all-ways-gpu script fixed the issues for me.
