I just did a system upgrade, and it seems hddtemp stopped working.
(as root)
hddtemp /dev/sda
/dev/sda: ATA Maxtor 6Y160M0: S.M.A.R.T. not available
It worked before the upgrade to the latest kernel
I can't test if it's working on my pata disk because that drive doesn't support SMART, the sata disk does.
Anybody an idea?
My system:
Asus a7n8x deluxe, the sata controller is a sil3112. I'm 2 identical sata disks using software raid.

Try smartctl.

I'm having exactly the same problem. Anyone have an idea?

First I would also try another tool, as qlus said. If this wont work either I would try to find out if its a kernel problem.
What is your kernelversion?

Sorry for the late reply here, I was a little busy lately and forgot about it.
But it seems it's a problem with hddtemp and not a configuration problem, so I'll just wait for the patch to be applied.

a while ago I encountered the same problem, made myself a package which solved the problem
you can find it here : http://users.telenet.be/archlinux/packa … pkg.tar.gz
