DHCP and PPPOE (Router and Bridge)

Sometimes my modem is at bridge mode, so that I don't loose any packets..
..and sometimes it's at router mode, and I loose packets that way because my modem is a shit modem

My problem is: I don't know what to write at rc.conf; on router mode I just need ' eth0="dhcp" ', but what about when I change it to bridge while linux is already running? I can't find a way to make it work without rebooting..

In bridged mode your modem simply passes everything to your NIC. I'm guessing you're on xDSL with a dynamic IP, so you don't need to edit your /etc/rc.conf anymore, you just have to reload the network settings using "/etc/rc.d/network restart".

If you do need to switch from a static IP to a dynamic one or vice versa, you can
- edit /etc/rc.conf and afterwards run "/etc/rc.d/network restart"
- set the network settings manually using the tools "ifconfig" and "route" or "ip" (ip can change IP settings and route tables) if you're changing to a static IP or just "dhclient" if you're switching to a dynamic IP.
