Hello Arch Friends,
I'm using KDE with up to date system as of December 2024.
The problem I have is that my system is slow when ...
(1) it's waking up from sleep or hibernation, meaning I didn't touch the workstation for 1-2 hours and I come back to find my workstation is seemingly powered off. When I wake it up with the power on button, it starts slower as if I would simply boot into Linux from being powered off compared to sleeping/hibernating. Additionally the task bar is frozen for a few more minutes and does not react to mouse hover or pressing the windows key (the one between CTRL and ALT) on the keyboard to summon the KDE application launcher.
(2) my system automatically logs me out when I am AFK for 5 minutes (which isn't a bad thing, i know i can toggle this) and the screen goes blank. When I come back, I see the workstation is powered on but the screen is blank. I move the mouse around to wake it up from that state and it takes several minutes to see the login screen.
(3) this one is new to me. I read somewhere, that these 2 issues I had above were solved for the others when they started to use sddm-git instead of just sddm. I found, that they both are mutually exclusive, so i went ahead and installed sddm-git, which had me uninstall the original sddm it came with by default. This resulted, that my boot up time in Linux is significantly longer now. When the last line in bootup text is seen with the [ OK ] things, it stops at the last [ OK ] entry (on NMCLI Manager or something of that sort) and then it takes a minute or 2 to get into the login screen.
I don't know what to do next. Somehow I made things worse after i installed sddm-git to replace the original sddm.
Currently I can perform "sddm" as a command but not "sddm-git". Also in systemctl I can see, that sddm.service is loaded and actively running. No sight of sddm-git in systemctl either.
What do I do, fellow Arch Friends?
