Crash Fail Proton Game Death Stranding via Steam

Hello folks,

Somewhat of an arch-newbie here.

This is regarding the game Death Stranding Director's Cut. I run this game via steam and default proton however i have tried different versions as well.

This has started showing up. I'm only 4 hours in or less and this is becoming unplayable.

Here is the error:

After this, the game also fails to validate and when steam tries to patch itself, it shows "CORRUPT UPDATE FILES".

I did fix it once before by doing the following:

  • uninstall the game on steam

  • clear steam download cache in steam settings

  • manually delete the

     ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/DEATH STRANDING DIRECTORS CUT/

folder as suggested in a different steam discussion that i am unable to locate currently (If i find it will add it in here).

  • re install game via steam

If i were to re install game via steam without manually deleting the dir mentioned above, it would also fail with the same corrupt files error.

This works, however is not very sustainable since the game is 70+ GB in size. After I fixed it the first time, I resumed playing and did not have issues until about 45 to 60 minutes later when the problem re-occured.

A little about my system:

OS: Arch Linux x86_64
Kernel: Linux 6.6.65-1-lts
Display (LG ULTRAGEAR): 2560x1440 @ 165 Hz in 27" [External, HDR] *
Display (BenQ GW2480): 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz in 24" [External]
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (16) @ 5.05 GHz
GPU 1: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti [Discrete]
GPU 2: AMD Raphael [Integrated]
Memory: 6.46 GiB / 61.96 GiB (10%)

Driver's info with the help of

lspci -v

:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation TU116 [GeForce GTX 1660 Ti] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Device 3fc5
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 106, IOMMU group 12
        Memory at fb000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
        Memory at fcc0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
        Memory at fcd0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=32M]
        I/O ports at f000 [size=128]
Expansion ROM at fc000000 [virtual] [disabled] [size=512K]
        Capabilities: <access denied>
        Kernel driver in use: nvidia
        Kernel modules: nouveau, nvidia_drm, nvidia

The crashing is one part of the issue.
The other part, now that it fails to validate stating CORRUPT UPDATE FILES seems to be the other major issue.

Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks.
