System freezes at random due to CPU lockup

At random times, my system freezes up whenever I start a heavy process (i.e. games or Firefox with many tabs). I've observed that this issue is consistent whenever I play up Euro Truck Simulator 2 for a while, and I haven't tested if this issue is consistent with other heavy applications. This issue also randomly happens without any consistent setup, so I'm at a deadlock as to what causes this.

Re: System freezes at random due to CPU lockup

Had the same problem with the same CPU. And I had to install Debian after more than a decade of Arch since this device is also my home router, so I need it to be stable and running all the time. Can you confirm that Head_on_a_Stick's workaround works so I can get back to Arch? In Linux realm, anything but Arch is a pain.

And I know it is embarrassing after so much time I didn't know about Microcode.

Re: System freezes at random due to CPU lockup

^ The 2000 series Ryzens had hardware deficiencies that necessitate the µcode fixes so it is highly likely to help with your router.

EDIT: the FSF don't seem to be aware of the importance of µcode and they've been going for many years now so don't feel bad :-)

Re: System freezes at random due to CPU lockup

I have a similar problem, but with a different processor, rolling back to kernel version 6.12.1 helped me.

Re: System freezes at random due to CPU lockup

The OP locks up in swapping and eurotrucks and there're at least two OOT modules and "... other logs ..." is seriously not helpful.
Ryzen soft lockups are discussed in https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Ryzen# … k_freezing but in order to know what that is and whether everybody here is actually facing the same issue, we'd need to see the actual - complete - data of every instance.
