Boot issues: Screen Not Displaying. Need Help

Since running the update the other day, i can no longer boot into either installation or live usb. I even tried other distros, only thing that works is booting them in compatibility mode or with nomodeset. I tried arch with speech. and while i can hear it running, the screen doesn't display anything. i think my hardware might be bricked. Please help.

Can you SSH in from another device to get additional debug outputs?

Re: Boot issues: Screen Not Displaying. Need Help

I don't think i can do that, also i no longer have the arch installation on my drive. The issues still persists it worked fine the other day before the update i booted up normally into the system. I'm not sure what to do now i am able to get in only using nomodeset or compatibility mode. i'm worried that the hardware might be affected because nothing works
I can install arch back with compatibility mode but i woudn't know what to do... After i boot into it with nomodeset
I have an amd gpu and i think some of the updates messed it up. It's an rx 580 seems to be a kind of regression that has happend

Re: Boot issues: Screen Not Displaying. Need Help

I think this is what happened i ran the update it updated a crucial part of the system the kernel, graphics driver or something else important and i forgot to restart and played a game during or after the update maybe just maybe that messed up my gpu because i didn't restart, that's why i can no longer boot without nomodeset, it even introduce a graphical glitches and flickering in windows that has never happened before ... It was an arch install with minimal setup just plain kde, and i had no indication that i had to restart ... I think it really messed up my gpu that's just my what my intuition tells me, and i know that the update most likely can't do that but it can definitely happen

i can no longer boot without nomodeset, it even introduce a graphical glitches and flickering in windows

1. 3rd link below. Mandatory.
Disable it (it's NOT the BIOS setting!) and reboot windows and linux twice for voodo reasons.

2. if there's no arch installation, why is there this thread?

3. updating or running arch is very unlikely to brick your GPU to the degree where it's malfunctioning on other environments, from the symptoms it either had a heat stroke or is underpowered.
Or there's a problem w/ the output connection (ie. your monitor cable)

Either way, w/ no actual data from the system but only "it doesn't work it think it's maybe broken" we're in no position to ever provide a somewhat informed comment on that.

1.You don't have to treat me like i don't have experience with computers. I am much more than experienced !!! and have already disabled fast boot and much more because i couldn't access my windows partition

2. I used the arch installation alone for few days and when i ran the update the day after, i woke up and couldn't boot it anymore and eventually found out i can no longer boot without nomodeset that's why i am looking for help here.

3. It's definitely not the cable, i'm unsure if my gpu was being cooled at all i did check sensors once and it seemed like they were in the norms. I took out the GPU reseated it also it seems that i can no longer use any amd driver on windows because it's starts flickering after let's says 10 mins right after that goes to black screen and i can use only the ones that are build by windows.

It seems that it's time for a new gpu most likely it could've been possibly a heat stroke...

Re: Boot issues: Screen Not Displaying. Need Help

1. I post that textblock on every thread that includes "I dual boot and have weird issue" and it's also in my signature links for a reason.
Also check what Tywin Lannister said about self-proclaimed kings . Or Queen Gertrude about the actress queen.

2. Yes, but does the archlinux installation still exist? In order to tell you what might be going one we'd need to see some logs.
Otherwise you could just as much tell the wind - there's nothing we can do based on speculating "could be something or something else" (literally)

3. There's gonna be an AMD driver auto-installed by windows or you're explicitly installing the adrenalin drivers from AMD.
* Have you at any point overclocked the GPU on either system?
* Is it currently seated in the PEG slot and the dedicated 6/8-ping power supply is connected?
* Does your motherboard allow you to control the voltage for the GPU and CPU (esp. if the latter is a Ryzen), https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Ryzen#Random_reboots
(both, undervolted GPU and CPU have caused issues manifesting in the GPU in previous threads, this is a hardware issue and will affect windows depending on how agressive powersaving gets applied and your board and it's also an emerging condition, ie. the "natural" HW degradation can lead you into that over time)
* What if you ramp up cooling (fan control and also maybe just blow a root ventilator at it)?

In any event, we'll have to see some data from the system in order to go on with this.

Re: Boot issues: Screen Not Displaying. Need Help

I completely understand your point but you don't have to think i'm someone who hasn't been around computers, i guess you are wired that way because some of the newbies on this forum probably are, totally i get it.

Anyway i will have to flash arch again on my usb and can i set nomodeset in the installer ? Because i haven't actually tried that. After i install it and run it for the journal log i guess i goofed by removing the installation huh we woudn't be able to see what actually happened ...

I have tried my adrenaline stable driver that i usually use then used amd cleanuputillity to uninstall it and try 5 more stable drivers (rinse and repeat) and none of them worked the only one that works is the one provided automatically by windows but it still has screen flickering to black sometimes but it doesn't go to black screen after x amount of time

i have never overclocked or undervolted the GPU or CPU since i have bought them back in 2018 and since then they have been working flawlessly.

The 6+2 PCIE Connecter is connected of course, card is seated in the pcie x16 slot and isn't overheating at all it's stays stable 50 ish celsius in windows that's the usual temp for a GPU when the fans are not running
