Dell Inspiron: external mic not working on in+out jack

Hello!
I've been using Arch* for a while and today I got a new headset that has a built-in mic - a Havit H2008D, which comes with an attachable mic.
I connected its in+out plug to my laptop via the combined audio in+out jack, but I can only get the audio. It's a problem I've gotten before with a few other headphones I've used on this.

Note: my current "Arch" install was originally Manjaro, but some time ago I decided to mess with some stuff to make it back into a "pure" Arch install and, although I can't guarantee I removed everything manjaro-related, I am using the arch repos (updated my mirrorlist) and kernel, and I have no manjaro-* packages installed. Feel free to archive(?) the post if it still doesn't apply though.

Laptop model: Dell Inspiron 15, 3567-A30C
System last updated in 2025/01/17

Codecs:

One thing I tried was to create an /etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.conf file and put:

options snd-hda-intel model=headset-mic

which sadly didn't solve it. I also tried model=auto and model=dell-headset-multi, as per https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v4.17/s … odels.html.

I'm not sure what I could try at this point, though. Help appreciated!

is that codec even driven by snd-hda-intel? Do you have any other modprobe.d configs?

From the current state what output do you get from

sudo dmesg | grep -E 'snd|dsp|sof'
arecord -lL
amixer -c0 #or whatever soundcard index your card/mic belongs to
pactl list cards
pactl list sources

I believe it is, but I'm not 100% sure. The module is loaded, at least...
And no, /etc/modprobe.d/ only has the file I added.
