[SOLVED] rootless podman errors out with

EDIT:
completely removed podman and all config files and no longer get this.

hello all,
trying to learn podman, and I installed it following the wiki.

however, when I run the command:

$ podman run         -d         --name n8n         -p 5678:5678         -v $PWD/n8n:/home/node/.n8n         docker.n8n.io/n8nio/n8n
Error: cannot evaluate symlinks on DB run root path "/run/containers/storage": lstat /run/containers/storage: permission denied

everything looks like the wiki, just not sure how to run a rootless podman.

any suggestions?
