Renewing dhcp on a router.

After a power outage my network was down with the message that dhcpd timed out waiting for a valid DHCP server response. In other posts jakenull had the same problem, determined the problem was his router, and resolved the problem by renewing dhcp on the router.

I have a Zyxel ADSL Router. I got my network working by booting into Slackware 9.1, which I presumed renewed dhcp on the router. An interesting question, why didn't booting into arch renew dhcp on my router?

Is it possible to renew dhcp on your router from inside arch? Could someone provide a short explanation of what is going-on?

Many thanks for any intel.

Re: Renewing dhcp on a router.

The solution is the command:

#dhcpcd eth0

This presumes the system recognizes your ethernet card, which you can determine with the command:

$ifconfig
