Hello, I'm new to the Arch forums, and this is my first topic.
I'm having help with installing the nvidia-340xx-lts on arch linux. I have followed this method (https://github.com/korvahannu/arch-nvid … tion-guide) but it seems to not work since mkinitcpio reported that "nvidia_modeset" and "nvidia_drm" is not found, even if it's mentioned in the installation guide. And after finishing the installation, my entire system broke.
Here are my specs:
Arch Linux, latest version, linux-lts kernel
Dell Inspiron 1720
Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT
Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 @ 2.00GHz
4GB RAM
This time, I installed arch again and all I have to say is,
Is there a proper way to install the drivers? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! ![]()
Best regards,
- Mohammad

Never follow random guides on the internet, whenever u wanna do something with arch, read the wiki becuz it has all u need and it will beneficial in the long run and when something goes south u will know exactly what went wrong.
If u plan to use the Nvidia proprietary drivers, keep in mind that they're no longer supported and u mught experience a plethora of issues, so I assume it's what's causing the issue, the wiki recommends using the nouveau drivers since old cards like urs (NV50 Tesla family), have better support with those.
Also can you provide more info and maybe error logs, because i can't say for sure wether the issue is actually drivers or missing kernel headers.

No missing kernel headers, no nothing. Just no modules found during mkinitcpio image creation. And thanks for the advice you gave me, ill stick with nouveau for a while and use other methods. if i want to
