Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

Irssi, i never tried Weechat but the site threw me off by alot.
It looks like its from 199x.
I can't either see what it does better than irssi than color nicks?
Does it even support fish?

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

fish is being worked on apparently, so I use irssi for now ...

I wouldn't mind changing when that get's implemented though.

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

Well, i've switched to weechat since the last time i posted here.

My irssi configs and theme stopped working a few months back so i gave weechat a shot. Defaults are much better and the config is much cleaner... basically KISS which appeals to me.  I fixed time stamp, removed nick list and info bar, adjusted a few other things and within 10min i had it looking and working the same way i had irssi. Also it has spellchecking which is always nice to have. The only thing i miss from irssi is that highlights woked on whole line of text, but i was told weechat will have that soon too.

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

I use irssi.  I never tried weechat but I just need a simple client with the ability to chat and some room for hooks/plugins/scripts (eg hilighting, notifications), so I stay with irssi smile.  Typing '/names' does the job for me for those very, very seldom cases where I would want to have a list of joined people.  Tab completion ftw.

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

I don't have any reason to try weechat, Irssi does everything I want (incl. BitlBee) and it's simple enough. And it's installed on my friend's server that I've got SSH access to.

Hardcore weechat user, scripter, also testing 0.2.7-git. 0.2.7 is a very different beast to its ancestor, infinitely more customisable than irssi, faster, lighter, and have yet to find anything it cant do over irssi.

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

Irssi, but I've been checking out weechat... Perhaps with some good configs / designs (and a better implementation of aliasing things easy [??]) I might switch.
I hate to do /window up/down and stuff like that. And it would seem there's no easy way to link like alt+up/down to those commands...?

Does weechat still cause 200+ wakeups per second in powertop? tongue

That was my reason for going back to irssi. I liked it otherwise.

Hi!

Weechat looks like! Can you put your config file?

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

I've been using irssi for a while, but after installing weechat and trying it out for a while, i've stuck with weechat for now. I really like the default setup, and how it's so easy to configure.

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

I haven't used weechat in a while, but I used it before irssi and remember that the defaults were better, but for some reason I thought irssi had a better plugin system.

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

WeeChat. I'm writing a script in lua, but I could have also chosen perl / python / ruby / tcl. With irssi, perl is the only option.

WeeChat's default theme is really colorful! <3

I kept getting error messages about the tcl plugin (probably because I don't have tcl installed), so I did `sudo rm /usr/lib/weechat/plugins/tcl.*`. That was kinda lame.

+1 irssi. Basically it has everything I want and is working fine in combination with bitlbee.

That's because repo WeeChat is built with tcl support but the package doesn't have tcl as a dep because it still runs even if tcl isn't installed. I run WeeChat from git anyway, mine has no tcl plugin. Which plugins to build are autodetected at compile time.

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

I used weechat with bitlbee, but my contacts complained about the missing typing notification, so I switched to irssi, because there's a nice script for this. And weechat produces about 100 wakeups per second which I don't like. These two things made me switch to irssi.
