Re: Gnome bug?

did you installed gnome package and gnome-extra package? Are you sure everything installed fine? My gnome has always shutdown and restarted well. And I just did a clean install today.

Re: Gnome bug?

I don't know if it's true, but I have always believed that you need a display manager to do that...

try disable the esd deamon, i think maybe ur problem is same as mine... smile

try not to start the esd, then you can shutdown in gnome.

Re: Gnome bug?

You need gdm to be able to restart from gnome. gnome-panel won't show these buttons if it can't contact gdm or when gdm says you're not allowed to shutdown. Note that though you have the buttons when these conditions are met, shutdown from the gnome menu brings you back to gdm in some cases. I don't know what logic is behind it, but it looks like the shutdown from gnome-panel gets blocked when some other user is still logged in inside gdm.
