Please post your complete system journal for the relevant boot:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

I can't do this specifically. I have to shutdown/reboot the moment it happens, since the system cannot be interacted with after the monitor turns off. No other GPU outputs will work either, and the CPU has no GPU integrated.

Re: [RESOLVED] NVIDIA RTX 3060 and Monitor Turning Off

1. ssh
2. ctrl+alt+del
3. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Keyboa … el_(SysRq) (nb you'll have to first enable that!)

But if you're not getting out of this by switching the VT (cltr+alt+f3) this is most certainly no the X11 server.

I don't know what ssh is in this specific case. I don't have another computer either to get data from this system over the network, other than my android phone that isn't rooted, nor do I want to root.
How can I ctrl+alt+del if I can't see anything due to the monitor turning off?
TTYs (EG: CTRL+ALT+FKeys) won't work because the monitor is off. I've already tried. After rebooting, the monitor stays off. I have to actually shut down the system by holding the power button and leave it sit off for 10+ minutes.

For step 3, what do I do when I've set sysctl kernel.sysrq=1? What key combination do I press to save a journalctl log during the issue? And what do I do after? I know journalctl logs in var/log aren't in plain text, and cannot be opened by text editors.

========================

Okay, I figured out the SSH thing. I use connectbot on my phone via the google play store. I had to install openssh and enable the sshd.service via systemctl. Now I can connect to my computer's bash terminal via my phone.

Once I had a similar issue when I was trying to install endeavouros, I got a black screen(still am getting it on arch linux iso, it's a problem with nouveau.) But when I opened the tty environment, I couldn't see if it was open. So I just typed in root, and typed in the command, or password then command in your case. You can just try typing reboot/shutdown now if you have doubts that you have actually logged into the user. Next time you would remember those steps and now you can extract the logs, just a self experience.

This tells that your system might be functioning and isn't completely freezed, but rather the monitor turned off.

Sincerely,
LL

Re: [RESOLVED] NVIDIA RTX 3060 and Monitor Turning Off

How can I ctrl+alt+del if I can't see anything due to the monitor turning off?

Primarily by looking at your keyboard, the point is to not reboot w/ the power button.
But if you can ssh into the system and it's still responding afterwards, you can get the journal from there.

After rebooting, the monitor stays off.

Is there a parallel OS (windows)?
Also keep an eye on the GPU temperatures, this is obviously not a problem w/ the OS but the HW or the firmware.

here are two of them for you. The first one is of a longer session where the issue didn't happen for quite some time. The second one is for where I shut down the system, waited a couple minutes, then booted it back up to the same issue quicker.

No. As for temps: https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/7lxcp3kz3v7.png (The 82 C one was like that the moment the GPU started, so it's not indicative of how hot it is.)

Those GPU temps are what I had right before the issue happened.

But also physically inspect the seating of PCI cards and post the output of "lspci -nn"

I put that kernel parameter into the default/grub file, since I don't know where else to put it even with the wiki document.

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="loglevel=3 quiet nvidia_drm.modeset=1 pcie_aspm=off"

Re: [RESOLVED] NVIDIA RTX 3060 and Monitor Turning Off

You'll still have to regenerate the grub config, the wiki has actually sublinks covering all of that.
And this assumes you're actually using grub.
"cat /proc/cmdline" will tell whether the parameter applies (as will the journal report that aspm is disabled/unavailable)

The devices aren't on the same bus.
Sanity check: did you forget to attach the dedicated 6/8-pin power plug to the gpu?
Also the bus ID is weird, sure this is the PEG slot?

I checked the GPU seating, it's fine. The pin is connected properly. This system was built by CyberPowerPC, and has worked for 3+ years using Windows without issue. Early last year, I was using Arch as well, and it never had this problem.

And yes, I'm using GRUB; but just in case, here's cat /proc/cmdline:

BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-linux root=UUID=139e53c5-29a4-409f-8ab9-d82290f3dd9d rw loglevel=3 quiet nvidia_drm.modeset=1 pcie_aspm=off

I'm probably going to have to consider "upgrading" to an AMD 7600 XT at this point. Here's the journalctl during the issue after adding the new kernel parameter:

https://0x0.st/8a9g.txt

The Power Supply is a corsair RM850, so it has enough power for the RTX 3060. Below is lspci -nn when the issue is happening:

I took out the RTX 3060 and re-seated it, this wobble is "normal" and doesn't do such when screwed in. -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFb3ek9j3nc

Here's a new journalctl log after reseating the GPU, since it happened again: http://0x0.st/8ahw.txt

Looks like this time, we get a stacktrace for the crashed GPU. (I don't think actual crashed GPUs can stacktrace. I'm pretty sure this is a software issue :V) I've created a topic on the nvidia developer forum, but it's been auto-hidden by their anti-spam system due to linking back to this thread: https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/n … pen/325656

There was pretty much an immediate GPU crash after I restarted after telling xorg to have the refresh rate be 165, which is my monitor's (A DELL S2721DGF)  maximum native refresh rate: http://0x0.st/8BSw.txt

Re: [RESOLVED] NVIDIA RTX 3060 and Monitor Turning Off

So... it looks like the problem was the PSU. From what I can tell, the PSU was starting to not be able to send power to the GPU at certain intervals, this was causing the GPU to become "unseated" despite never leaving the PCIe slot. The reason I think this was the case is, after one of the restarts, I had xorg set the refresh rate to 165. Rebooted, it was set to 165, but the system immediately crashed not a minute later. So, on next boot, I quickly set it back to 59. rebooted again. However, after about 5 minutes, the entire system started to whine, and it was getting increasingly louder, it was actually absolutely terrifying. At its peak, it did a click, and the whole system shut down.

I grabbed my rubber gloves, flipped the PSU switch, since it was still getting a charge as evidence to my phone and mouse still getting charge, and I took apart the system. I smelled around, and there was clearly some faint burning plastic smell somewhere, and since the GPU hadn't been under load recently, I don't think it was coming from it, and I even smelled it too, and it didn't smell. The motherboard in general seemed to have smelled a bit, and the PSU I couldn't tell.

After taking out the GPU, I attempted to turn on the system safely, but... the motherboard and PSU refused to accept a power on signal. Meaning it's likely the motherboard and PSU failed together. Thankfully I have an old 2015 Laptop as a backup I can use in the meantime. Sorry for all the trouble I've caused here.
