lightdm/sddm black default login screen

I’m running Arch with KDE Plasma and SDDM as my login manager, and I’m hitting a weird issue.
I can’t get the SDDM login screen with the theme even though I’ve updated the configuration files.
I end up with default black background login screen.

when the screen timer runs out i get the theme that i should have without the background image i should have.

What theme are you using?

If its not Breeze, do you have 'qt5-declarative' installed?

i'm using breeze.
also when the screen timer runs off, and the right login screen pops up, i have to enter the password once, then click on ESC and enter again for it to login to the session.
