Hi,
my apologies for asking here. I know, this issue is not related specifically to arch, but only to signal-desktop. I already contacted the signal support but they answered just with some standard phrases. So maybe someone here
can shed some light on this.
For some days now signal-desktop shows me a message to login via my smartphone to prove that it is capable of supporting PQXDH. If I fail to do so, they want to disable my account.
I use signal exclusively on my desktop and went the way I found in the internet how to signal-without-a-smartphone. The short description is:
signal-cli -u MY_NUMBER register
somehow (via internet browser) get the captcha token needed to register
signal-cli -u MY_NUMBER register --captcha <captchaToken>
Get verification code via SMS
signal-cli -u MY_NUMBER verify <verificationCode>
start signal-desktop, it will display a barcode that can be scanned and yields a URL
signal-cli -u MY_NUMBER addDevice --uri <url>
That's all
The signal support always speaks of a primary device and to be honest I do not know, which is my primary device now. The good old Nokia was just used for receiving the SMS containing the verification code, so from what I understand
they shouldn't even be aware of this device. On the other hand I assume signal-desktop is capable of handling PQXDH, isn't it? So I simply don't know what I could do to avoid being disabled.
Perhaps someone ran into the same problem or maybe the desktop-app is my primary device now and I simply have to call desktop-cli with certain parameters. If anybody has an idea, I would be very happy to hear it. In some cases
signal proved to be very convenient to keep contact to some old school friends or my children (let's say all these 'E-Mail-is-so-nineties-guys').
Cheers,
Zmann
