So i have kde 6 on wayland with magic lamp as desktop effect enabled, but some applications like firefox or kate minimize to mouse pointer and not to the taskbar. There is no issue on x11. Tried searching the web for solutions but no luck. Please help.

I am sorry if that was written somewhere but what do I do with this window?

THe idea was to check whether the affected clients run on the nested xwayland server or as native wayland windows.

Well they all appear under wayland windows. Also, i just noticed that when minimizing the window, they just randomly go to the taskbar at normal speed but in the second iteration of minimizing, it goes almost instantaneously when the animation speed is set to default in desktop effects.

They do what?
The wiki suggests a couple ow ways to check whether those are xwayland clients, which of those did you test?
Anything else special about those windows compared to others you tested (eg. them being the only maximized ones etc.)?

I tried using xeyes but the eyes didn't move at all when i hovered over to firefox, kate, dolphin, alacritty windows so i guess they are running under wayland. Discord seems to running as xwayland. I also tested xwininfo but mouse never turned into the plus symbol for the same set of applications except for discord. As for the windows, some of them minimized to taskbar, like dolphin and alacritty, but at a very high animation speed while they were not maximized. I tested discord which also was not maximized but it minimized to the mouse same as firefox and kate which I tested while they were maximized.

The last comment there also addresses problems w/ clients that try to minimize to a systray - is that the case for the affected windows?
Do you have a multiscreen setup? Do you scale the output? Does it help to slow down animations (apparently the pace is geenral issue?)
Offline
I dont have a multiscreen setup and the display is scaled to 100%, which is the default one i guess. I am using taskbar auto hide from the panel configuration. Can it be the issue? The animation speed is normal when it minimize to mouse pointer but its extremely fast when its minimize to the taskbar. I tried scaling the display a little but screen resolution get messed up when i do that.

The dodging stuff? Sounds very prone, yes. Try w/o.

The minimizing seems to be fixed when i use taskbar to be always visible but the animation speed is still the same.

You'll best file a bug upstream about this (see previous links), though I guess the magiclamp effect will have custom animation time settings?

you "kamazik"?

I did change the animation speed from default value but some applications still minimize instantly without any animation.

What "some applications"?
Do they "minimize" to the systray?
There might be a collision if the window also/rather closes.

Noticed that too, but only in Firefox so far. It doesn't always happen, but it seems a freshly started plasmashell and a hidden panel is involved.
Example video. My panel with the task-manager is on the bottom, so it should never minimize upwards.
This is all Wayland, no X. The other effect Squash also misbehaves if this condition is triggered. Should probably be reported upstream.

For me, I use taskbar autohide on the bottom edge. Applications now close to taskbar but some like kate, dolphin and alacritty goes down instantly. Firefox is good for now. All on wayland too. Discord as well minimize instantly but it is on Xwayland maybe that is related somehow.

Is this when clicking on the taskbar button, the minimize button in the window or a shortcut to minimize a window?
Or all?
Offline
In all of the cases. Using the taskbar button would minimize the application instantly. Using the shortcut Super+pgdown also minimize it instantly. Same with the minimize button on the window. Only firefox works fine when minimized using the button on the window itself.

But not when using the taskbar or shortcut? And you're using the client side decoration for firefox (where the window buttons are integrated with the tabs etc)?
Offline
Yep, not when using shortcut or taskbar icon. Not using any windows decoration on any applications. Just the default breeze one.

No, what I menat was whether https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Firefo … dow_border is relevant or whether Firefox gets animated correctly no matter how you trigger its minimization.
File a bug upstream, but there's probably some collision with another animation effect.
Offline
No, not using this effect either. Firefox gets animated correctly only when it is minimized using the button on window itself.
Offline
So it only works if the minimization is triggered from outside - file a bug against kwin then.
