Encountering random freezes

background
There are lots of errors I am trying to resolve and I am not sure if they are related issues. I'm not sure if posting everything is appropriate as it might get convoluted, so I'll post more individual topics to seek help at a later date after tackling this. I installed archlinux months ago had to spend hours reading the manual and googling but my school and work didn't permit me to continue so I left my laptop to rot. I finally have time again but I have been plagued with problems. I hope to fix most of them soon! Thank you for your patience in advance :') I know it's frowned upon to watch tutorial videos on here, but I watched a few and I've spent an inordinate time reading the manual and the forum... i'm learning a lot which is amazing! but i've read so many mean comments on here that I hesitated posting this.

I'm still a beginner but I chose this distro because this laptop was really struggling with windows (even when it was new) and I just wanted something lightweight. I've read posts by other users and the problems I've read about are about the kernel/driver. I've followed the manual in terms of installation and I've followed the basic instructions on checking whether things are installed etc. However, I'm still kind of afraid to make bigger changes because I can't isolate the problem.

problem
The current (more visible) problem is that my laptop randomly freezes. Not sure if this is relevant but I haven't installed much on here, and I've primarily been on the browser googling, reading the forum and the manual... I sometimes have the terminal open to try get used to using cmds and sometimes have the files manager open. That's the max usage ahaha... The screen freeze could happen after 10min, after a few hours, or after like 10h+??. Sometimes, the freeze happens suddenly and sometimes my mouse slows down before the screen freezes. The fan continues running in the meantime and my connected keyboard continues to work. The screen doesn't respond to me typing or pressing the power button, so I have been holding it to restart it....... I am also not sure if this is a physical problem? the rubber parts are like disintegrating not kidding... Nearing the end of its life with windows, the screen would freeze if I put too much pressure on one side of the laptop. I've opened the laptop up before but didn't notice anything amiss. I've also positioned the laptop differently and am using a separate keyboard so I no longer apply pressure on that side of the laptop.
