I didn't read the whole thread, but did a quick search for "envy24control". This nice app isn't in [proaudio], and noone seems to ask for it, so here I do. Of course, envy24control is only for people with an envy-driven sound card, so maybe it's too much work for too few people. But just in case it was forgotten... ;-)

Thanks for your contributions!

envy24control is part of the alsa-tools package in AUR.

This makes me think that the should be a "per soundcard type" howto in the wiki.

Any volunteer for envy24control?

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

I will take care of envy24control as I experiment and learn more. On the subject of kernels: It seems that CK with these tips enacted http://ck.wikia.com/wiki/AudioHints may be the best option. I think CK and Beyond both have the hz-default_1000.patch applied. Anyone have a definitive answer on the need for the rt patch in this case? Also, how does limits.conf fit into this equation?

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

justin, i answered to your email.

it's ok if you send me the kernel package or the PKGBUILD for it - i can rather quickly build it.

i have a package for 2.6.20-rt5 lying here (all the patches and configs are there, i just need to assemble it into proper PKGBUILD), so I might do just that.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

I could never get Rezound running on ArchLinux.
I just installed from your repo and I get this error:
rezound: error while loading shared libraries: libFLAC++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
Issue with flac?? It works with all other apps.
also, someone asked about Fruityloops. LMMS is like that I guess but LMMS doesn't work properly anymore. Makes funny noise with oss and alsa and will not work with Jack anymore.

ProAudio for the best Linux OS. Yippie!!!!  Great work!!

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

Hey guys,

This is what some dude set up for proaudio on Gentoo. I've tried it but Gentoo is not as stable as Arch.
Arch is more advanced than all the other distro that everyone is trying to put proaudio on.
I've tried JackLab, all the Debian audio distros, ccrma, etc. I get tons of xruns using them all.

One good thing about the Gentoo thing is all the apps they have available that we don't. I wish I knew how to do what you guys do so I could setup some for Arch.
Take a look at the Gentoo=Overlay:
this is the main page: http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki/inde … =Main_Page
this is where the packages are: http://svnweb.tuxfamily.org/filedetails … KAGES-LIST
this is a complete list of them:
http://svnweb.tuxfamily.org/filedetails … KAGES-LIST

Hopefully that may help Arch become a leader in proaudio for Linux is someone can get all that running on Arch.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

I use packages from gentoo proaudio overlay to see what apps to port etcetc.

Re: xruns - you need to tune both the RT kernel IRQs and Jack latencies to match your hardware (HINT: someone could write/find a short HOWTO on this subject).
Also killing off as many unused daemons as possible also may help (background indexing daemons, sometimes turning off networking hardware may help).

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

philicorda over at ardour.org has written a guide how to use ardour with syncing to video and exporting again. He has given permission for it to be posted on the wiki.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

The only distro I don't get xruns with is Arch..or Ark or...well, this distro. Has the name changed yet?
I use the same pc but have removable harddrives. Because I can't print from Arch to my Brother printer, I've installed Ubuntu and it's studio repo and that gives xruns.
I think that Arch with any of its kernels works the best with audio, video, I'm not too sure as I've never done it.

Hey, for video/audio, the app LiVES is now syncing with jack-audio which maybe able to sync with Ardour too.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

I'm wondering a few things:
Is there an realtime kernel PKGBUILD around for testing yet?
What are your opinions for filesystem tuning? I have experimented  (on ext3) with some various options using tune2fs( noatime, data=writeback) and hdparm ( hdparm -c 3 -d 1 -m 16 -A1 /dev/hda). I have not noticed any improvements in latency.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

Pajaro, actually, I just tried to sync Ardour and LiVES and no, they didn't sync.
Ardour, Hydrogen, and Rosegarden have an option to sync with jack. When enabled, all will sync with jack.

LiVES doesn't have a sync option.  If you know how to, please help cas I can't get any apps to sync with jack unless that option is available.

Just tried a few more jack apps that don't sync. They all run at the same time while jack is on but not in sync.

They will sync to jack but not run in sync like when you enable syncing on Hydrogen, Ardour, and Rosegarden.
I would Sync them all and push play on any of these 3 apps and they all start at the same time.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

I think this repo is a great idea...berkus, your effort is greatly appreciated. I am currently running arch64, so if you would like me to build x86_64 versions of these packages, I would be happy to do so. Just let me know.

5. Jack transport control
-------------------------
LiVES can be controlled by a jack transport
(http://jackit.sf.net). You can set your jack transport
settings from Tools/Preferences/Jack.

I think that if it can be done, it will be there, though i never used lives.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

Great!
I bought the soundcard today, im having a friend over for beer so I don't have time to work with it until tomorrow.
What I noticed was that libfreebob 1.0 requires libiec61883 1.1.0 which, as of now, hasn't made it into Arch repositories yet. Moreover, current JACK package (0.102.20-1) is built without FreeBoB support. Did anyone build these packages? I mean this should probably be fixed, if I get no response I would try to build them and upload to aur, can't promise anything, i'm not so good with pacman yet. But I will try;)
