Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

Here is a bit more information, when I start qjackctl as root I get:

JACK compiled with POSIX SHM support.
/dev/shm/jack-0 already exists, but is not a directory!
cannot create server sockets
cannot create engine

Any clues?

Thanks,
Arthur

@frabato : I think bmpanel requires 2.6.25 or greater to run. I switched to pypanel w/ no issues.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

Nope the AUR kernel hasn't been updated yet. Waiting for feedback from someone in one of the IRC linux audio channels; he's testing the config. Weird thing is that I'm having no problem myself, but it's a fresh Arch installation so I can't compare.

Ok are the issues being faced in other rt kernels also beside the AUR one? Make sure to use a different config; copy from kernel26 then adjust RT-related options via menuconfig.

Don't run jack as root - won't work.

Thanks for the dssi-vst heads-up, a few PKGBUILD errors there. Will be fixing it tomorrow as soon as I get my hands on my Arch box. In the meantime you could add in LADSPADIR=$pkgdir/usr/lib/ladspa after the DSSIDIR.

@ciembor: about 10 people can update the repo and anyone with a Google ID is welcome to join in and help maintain the source packages, see http://code.google.com/p/proaudio/

He might be asking about the Madfire repo, which is in fact....very dead. It's still mentioned in the wiki, which I rewrote the other day before losing all my changes.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

anyone got info on speeding up your system? like using hdparm and doing at that irq stuff?
my main card shares the irq with the usb port. I think that is affecting my performance because I can't use IR files larger than 100kb yet I have a friend that uses up to 1gb on a PIII and 500mb ram.
I have an AMD-1.7bg with 1gb ram.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

@ funkmuscle:

I would recompile your rt kernel and remove usb support. That might solve that...unless you really *need* it. As far as hdparm is concerned the manpage is your friend! I would say just make sure dma is enabled and call it good.

rtirq:

Getting in touch w/ rtirq's author is on my todo list. Usage of that script is dependent on the kernel you are running...so beware.

Ben

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

Hi, I'm trying to install the latest Ardour-2.7 and I keep getting this error below.
I have the complete alsa package install including the alsa-lib...

Checking for usb_interrupt_write() in C library usb... yes
Checking for C header file linux/input.h... yes
Checking for FLAC__seekable_stream_decoder_init() in C++ library FLAC... no
Checking for C++ header file boost/shared_ptr.hpp... yes
Checking for lo_server_new() in C library lo... yes
Checking for dmalloc_shutdown() in C library dmallocth... no
Checking for C header file alsa/asoundlib.h... no
Checking for C header file /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreMIDI.framework/Headers/CoreMIDI.h... no
It appears you don't have the required MIDI libraries installed. For Linux this means you are missing the development package for ALSA libraries.

That should do the trick. If you (and you seem to) always want the most bleeding edge stuff watch for and file bug reports ... and get on the mailing list.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

thanx btartsa...you're right, I do like the bleeding edge but this is the latest stable version of Ardour. I'm on the ardour mailing list so as soon as a new stable version is out, I grab it...

Thanx again for the help and I will get on the bug report mailing list...

you guys save me all the time..

hey, from the Arch proaudio google code, the slv2-svn won't build...I checked for bugs but nothing unless I'm looking for the wrong thing...

Updated to revision 1773.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

Strange, because slv2-svn built fine here. Maybe there was a problem with that specific revision?
Also ardour-slv2 from aur builds fine with slv2-svn and jackd-svn but fails with slv2 from aur and jackmp-svn, just so you know...

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

NOT A BLEEDING EDGE ISSUE...
the reason I like to use the bleeding edge apps is for testing so I can help in the development since I can't program, the least I can do is test and feedback..

anyway, I've been getting xruns while using IR files larger than 100kbs for reverb....
I was told to high prio irq for soundcard...did that but no change.
someone then said to enable dma...
I get this error:

sudo hdparm -d1 /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
HDIO_GET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device

Then I was told to use sdparm

I get this:

sudo sdparm /dev/sda
    /dev/sda: ATA       Maxtor 6L200R0    BAH4
Read write error recovery mode page:
  AWRE        1
  ARRE        0
  PER         0
Caching (SBC) mode page:
  WCE         1
  RCD         0
Control mode page:
  SWP         0

any help??

nevermind..... all issues seems to be with the rt kernel and no way to roll back as I've tried. Only the rt_11 is avail..
The vanilla kernel is doing fine....no xruns, 21.3msec and can run large IR files now..

well now the nvidia rt kernel will not build for the rt-2.6.24.7_rt22... I was able to build the kernel after trying to roll back. the site was down.
I thought the vanilla was fine until I loaded a few IR files and mad latency issues happened.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

The source tree has changed..after download, look in the archive and do a manual configuration and setup (not install; just ./configure && make or whatever the equivalent is). There is documentation in the toplevel svn dir.

Looks like we have a hiatus again. I myself have been facing real bad luck - I got the deadly click on the hard disk and all my Arch-related stuff has been lost (including offline updates I'd reflected and changes I've made to some packages). Will be good if someone can attend to the high priority list (kernel; aur one is also in google with the same name).

I need real, proper pen and paper for this.

not sure what you mean but I downloaded the svn source tree again....couldn't find any documentations... I think I just didn't understand what you meant..

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

funkmuscle: sorry i meant read the README and related text files..i've set up a virtual Arch I'll see if I can help now.

leethargo: if you're not posting a solution but rather making an enquiry, then no, to my knowledge pam will not work without a login manager (you can avoid starting X by logging in at the terminal and have a startup script startx for you). That is why it works when you log out and in manually by killing X. Also, note the links posted by Army in case you have further issues.

And oh yes - happy new year!

[[[[[

]]]]]

That one proved very elusive for me.
I found that by using the second way of configuring jack got me running again.
Will have a look and try to update this with the text/instructions which are on the main jack FAW or documents page.
