Current State of 4K Monitor Support

I need to get a new monitor and was looking at some 4K 27 inch models.  I don't play games, but would use it mostly for photography and video editing, as well as general desktop use.

What is the current state of font resizing and scaling of graphic user interfaces when using high resolution monitors?

I mostly use KDE Plasma (wayland) and common office apps like libre-office, thunderbird, firefox, and gimp, but I also use many less well known apps and a few AUR apps.  I am worried that some apps my not implement GUI scaling correctly for high-resolution monitors.  My eyesight is not great and I would have a hard time reading things that are too small, or clicking on GUI items that are too small.

If you use a 4K-27 inch monitor, could you tell me your experiences and issues with the scaling of GUI applications.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/HiDPI

Just configure your current setup as HiDPI - of course everything will be upscaled and "too big", but you'll notice the glitches (clients that look too normal), can start to work on that and then either determine "fuck, this is a complete show stopper" or just attach your new HiDPI output and see what happens.

27" at 3840x2160 is ~160 dpi, at 4096 x 2160  is ~174dpi
This is actually not that much and very common for FullHD 13"-14" notebooks.
