can't change brave's icon

Hi!
I’m trying to change brave’s icon but without much of luck so far.
So no matter what, I should be able to just modify the /usr/share/applications/brave-browser.desktop (I want it to be for all users and I don’t have .desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications/) file with Icon=/usr/share/icons/my-theme/what/ever/path/to/icon.svg and that’s it, right?
I also tried huge load of things such as updating the cache of the icons, database of .desktop icons… I’m going crazy.

If I changed geany.desktop Icon=geany to Icon=brave-browser it should have changed the geany's icon to the brave ones is it not? same with brave-browser.desktop Icon=brave-browser to Icon=geany
But it doesn’t change

Please help. Just tell me what and where I need to do just for demonstration… like changing it to xfce4-terminal or geany icon or somethng, I don’t care. I wanna see how in general I change icons for custom ones and see it actually changing.

So I tested it with some icon themes and some icons apply perfectly but some are not and I still can't to change that .desktop file to apply different icons.
Also I navigated to the installed icon theme folder that firefox, geany etc are grabbing their icons from and I clearly see there brave.svg icon that is different than the default brave icon, but brave don't seem to be case. I even explicitly changed .desktop file Icon=brave instead of Icon=brave-browser and nothing! madness!

and I also have a link icon in that theme from brave-browser.svg to brave.svg anyways. I'm pulling my hairs now

I re-installed the whole system and everything etc etc and now everything working as intended except the brave browser's icon.
Is this something known? do you have the same?

Where does the icon not appear? Tasklist, menu, another plugin?
Did you set an icon name (like 'brave-browser'), or an absolute path like in your first post?

On the task manage / icons task manager / dock... I use Plasma.
I even changed the default /hicolor/ icons and it didn't help

Oh sorry, I thought you were using xfce, for plasma I can't help you too much. The general mechanics are the same, but I recently tested brave on xfce and had the icon fine anyway.

I don't think DE can have affect on this, as you said general mechanics are the same.
By having icon fine you mean you were able to change it / it auto changed with icon theme etc ?

Yes, but implementations can be different.

That's the whole issue, I can obviously see brave's icon just fine, but it's the default one and I can't change it like at all. No icon themes, no custom icon, no .desktop file change, no cache clear no nothing. Drives me crazy.
I appreciate your help though

FWIW, changing the icon name in /usr/share/applications/brave-browser.desktop works for me on xfce (it does change the icon in e.g. the appmenu).

Yeah, it does change the icon in the menu for me as well, but not for the task icon manager etc
