edit: Please disregard, sorry for the noise. I searched up and down but missed the link to the wine 9.0 release in the news. It clearly states that 16-bit is dead. (It reads like 16-bit support might come back, but at the moment it’s gone.)
When I try to run a 16-bit Windows application with Arch’s wine-10.9-1, I get this:
0154:err:module:loader_init "krnl386.exe16" failed to initialize, aborting
0154:err:module:loader_init Initializing dlls for L"C:\\windows\\syswow64\\winevdm.exe" failed, status c0000005
This is in a brand-new WINEPREFIX. (I’m trying to start the SETUP.EXE from Tomb Raider 2. The game itself is 32-bit, but apparently not the installer. I possibly have more older software like that.)
There are posts like this one, which state that 16-bit programs won’t work anymore now with WOW64. I couldn’t find much more info on this topic.
So, is 16-bit WINE dead for good or is there still hope? Any trick I don’t know about?
Thank you in advance.
