yay installation problem

hello guys hope you're doing well . so i am new in arch and i heard that it's common to use pacman and yay to install things here and i try to install yay but i have a problem
here what it said when i enter makepkg -si :

go build -trimpath -mod=readonly -modcacherw -ldflags '-X "main.yayVersion=12.5.0" -X "main.localePath=/usr/share/locale/" -linkmode=external -compressdwarf=false' -buildmode=pie -o yay
error obtaining VCS status: exit status 128
Use -buildvcs=false to disable VCS stamping.
make: *** [Makefile:114: yay] Error 1
==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build().
    Aborting...

anyone can help

Re: yay installation problem

AUR helpers in general are not really reccommended, especially not if you don't understand the implications of the AUR https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AUR_helpers

That said, this reads like a network issue, can you reach github under normal circumstances? maybe also post the entirety of the log. you could try to take it up on the offer and adjust the pkgbuild so that -buildvcs is passed as a flag.

Moving to AUR issues
