One core used only for gaming

Hello,

So basically my arch linux is using only utilizing basically one core in gaming (two at most) and this makes my cpu intensive games have low fps (like in total war warhammer 3 when passing turns it drops to 5 fps (average is 80 fps when playing in campaign) and rimworld it stutters when raids are happening with more then 10 raiders). I have tried multiple ways to fix it from changing to x11 from wayland, using different versions of proton (including the custom ones), installing all dependencies for proton, using gamemode, setting the right settings for nvidia and using correct drivers, changing settings in bios to enable multithreading and other settings and the opposite of turning off settings that might interfere with multithreading, using different kernals (zen, lts, stock). All these options didnt work, but the funny thing is I know that my arch linux can use multiple threads since when it compiles shaders the cpu usage is at 100%.

Im pretty new to arch linux so thats why I wanted to use the arch forums as a last resort. If you want more information ill gladly provide it but can you post the commands so I know how to do it without messing up

These are my system specs:

This is a laptop with a desktop cpu so maybe cause of that linux doesnt know how to use it properly but thats just a theory of mine

Please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General and the output of "lscpu", also please use

tags.

Re: One core used only for gaming

Nothing there spells trouble, if wine hadn't moved to WOW64 I'd suggest you're missing lib32-nvidia-utils.
The game might just be using two threads.
How does it behave if you reduce the resolution to eg. VGA?

Re: One core used only for gaming

Welp cant do anything I guess. I changed the graphics to 720p in game and still to no avail, ive attached screenshots of when the game is running normally and it is utilizing most cpu cores but when I pass the turn it only uses 2 at 100%. On windows this game has multi threading capabilities so I have no clue to why it doesnt want to do it on linux when passing turns

Screenshot link: https://imgur.com/a/GfgFNSq
If there are no other solutions Ill probably just use dual boot and use windows for gaming.
Thanks for trying to help Seth

Re: One core used only for gaming

Weird thing is the performance got now worse when running normally and its only utilizising one - three cpu cores but still the same performance when passing turns.

Re: One core used only for gaming

Is this due to OpenGL instead of dxvk or "random"?

If this is "random" and "steam":
