Can't install Steam games "CORRUPT UPDATE FILES"

Guys, I've been running Arch for a month now, Steam's kinda been giving me issues since the first week, but managed to solve them temporarily, because I would have to repeat the process twice per week and I didn't know these forums existed.

The problem is that I've been trying to install games for two days now and I get the message "CORRUPT GAME FILES" in the downloads section of the client. Previously, I managed to get around this by deleting the downloading folder in the steamapps directory (~/.local/share/steam/steamapps), but it would work for hours or just a couple of days, as I said before.
I'm running the Runtime version of Steam, installed via Pacman, my system is up to date, and aside from caffeine-ng, I haven't downloaded anything that could be messing with steam to my knowledge. I booted steam from the terminal to see more or less what was happening but I have no idea, here's what's being displayed on the terminal:

The NVME where Arch is installed is new, and it should be working as intended, also, I'm running KDE Plasma, the game in question is Street Fighter 6, which I uninstalled because the performance, for some reaso, during week 1 was amazing, and now it runs like shit on my system for some reason, though in windows it runs as intended.

Also, for some reason, when finishing the download, Steam goes crazy, closes itself, then reopens and asks me if i wanna add a non-steam game, then if i close that window, tells me there's a new controller firmware, but no controller is plugged in and then asks me if i wanna uninstall a game.

Core dumps are a bad sign, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Core_d … _core_dump

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: Can't install Steam games "CORRUPT UPDATE FILES"

FWIW since this normally shouldn't happen for the heck of it and that dump not being overy useful due to lack of symbols because steam is steam. When this happens do you have corresponding file system errors in your journal? e.g. there have been reports of BTRFS having issues on current kernels, might be worth testing linux-lts or so (though as those issues seem to have gotten introduced in the stable series chances are they got backported)

Maybe after having reproduced such a situation post

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

Btw as for the SF6 perf issues this could have been this bug: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 6#p2249146 -- which can be workarounded as mentioned.

Re: Can't install Steam games "CORRUPT UPDATE FILES"

Hello, I'm having kinda similar problem.

I can download games without problem, but verification (manual or automatic) is most cases leads to "Update files corrupted" error, it can be somehow "fixed" by deleting `steamapps/downloading` but only sure way is to delete game and reinstall it from scratch.

Especially I experience `Steam goes crazy, closes itself, then reopens and asks me if i wanna add a non-steam game, then if i close that window, tells me there's a new controller firmware, but no controller is plugged in and then asks me if i wanna uninstall a game.`.

I have tried running runtime Steam, Flatpak Steam I even tired on different network (mobile internet), still same stuff.

I use `ext4` (NVME), disk's SMART reporting `good`.
I don't experience any "disk dying" symptoms (outside of Steam).

(Everything is up-to-date and stuff)

Re: Can't install Steam games "CORRUPT UPDATE FILES"

It's good you checked things mentioned by V1del, but without error messages / logs it's impossible to tell if you and OP have the same issue.

Please start  a new thread and link to this one (so you don't have to repeat everything)
