Why "Type" appears before a profile is selected? [SOLVED]

It doesn't seem to have any purpose.
Why not rename it to "Profile type" so it goes directly to "Desktop/Minimal/Server/Xorg"?

Re: Why "Type" appears before a profile is selected? [SOLVED]

Because a profile consists of more than just the type?

I suppose you selected the built-in “Minimal” or “Server”: they offer only the type selection. But even among the built-in profiles, “Desktop” and “Xorg” have other properties too.

I don't see anything more than just the type:

You didn’t select any profile.

I see what you mean. The Type reappears after you picked a profile.

Let me readjust my question: Why the Type as shown in the screenshot appears *before* you get to selected Desktop/Minimal/Server/Xorg?

Re: Why "Type" appears before a profile is selected? [SOLVED]

“Type” doesn’t reappear. It’s always there, because it’s one of profile’s properties. This menu displays all properties of a profile that can be set.

Since only “Type” is a property shared by all profiles and it also has to be set, it can and must be shown even when no profile is selected yet. Why would it be skipped and, if it was, how would you access it?

I suppose you can open a PR, that creates an alternative user interface pathway: when type is not set, the user interface automatically opens the type selection dialog. I skimmed over the code and, from what I understand about the current implementation, the entire UI is being handled uniformly and there is no space for such special logic. So not sure, how warm reception it is going to get, if it actually requires creating an enitire separate UI implementation or introducing a dirty, unrelated hack inside existing control flow.

No, I'll pass on that. I just thought it was an oversight.
