[SOLVED] Akonadi not working after Update to 25.08

Hi all!

Yesterday I did a full system upgrade and some kde packages were updated too from 25.04 to 25.08. Since then, KMail and Kontact stopped working, moaning that some background processes couldn't be started. Well, it's not the first time, Akonadi has trouble, so I did the usual fsck and vacuum runs.
Vacuum ran fine but fsk says right in the beginning:

17/19 Looking for resources in the DB not matching a configured resource...
ERROR: Couldn't talk to 1

Unfortunatly, it is not telling which one could be the culprit.

So I checked the mysql connection and the akonadi schema but that seems to work correctly.

Then I tried to restart akonadi and that looks strange:

$ akonadictl status
Akonadi Control: stopped
Akonadi Server: running
Akonadi Server Search Support: available (Remote Search)
Available Agent Types: akonadi_archivemail_agent, akonadi_birthdays_resource, akonadi_contacts_resource, akonadi_davgroupware_resource, akonadi_etesync_resource, akonadi_ews_resource, akonadi_ewsmta_resource, akonadi_followupreminder_agent, akonadi_google_resource, akonadi_ical_resource, akonadi_icaldir_resource, akonadi_imap_resource, akonadi_indexing_agent, akonadi_knut_resource, akonadi_kolab_resource, akonadi_maildir_resource, akonadi_maildispatcher_agent, akonadi_mailfilter_agent, akonadi_mailmerge_agent, akonadi_mbox_resource, akonadi_migration_agent, akonadi_mixedmaildir_resource, akonadi_newmailnotifier_agent, akonadi_notes_agent, akonadi_openxchange_resource, akonadi_pop3_resource, akonadi_sendlater_agent, akonadi_unifiedmailbox_agent, akonadi_vcard_resource, akonadi_vcarddir_resource

$ akonadictl stop
Akonadi is not running.

$ akonadictl start
Akonadi is already running.

Seems, akonadi has a split personality hmm

I would be glad if anybody could point me to the right direction.

Thx in advance!

Not sure if related, but occurred at the same time: Has sending mail worked for you since removing those packages? Removing them allows Akonadi to start, but any mail sent just stays in the outbox, no errors shown anywhere. Sending the same messages with K9 on my phone works fine.

After removing the akonadi-notes and knotes packages, KMail initially wasn't working properly for me either. Akonadi was still seemingly in a bad state (ie. still a split personality). I just rebooted and it was somewhat fine after that. Lots of "Retrieving Folder Contents" and "Please wait . . ." messages when clicking on various e-mails, so I minimised it and let it run for a while.

Eventually, KMail started showing the status: "Database Exception: database deadlock, unsuccessful after multiple retries" and "Sql error: Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction QMYSQL: Unable to execute s..." and it appears that manual action was required to resolve it. I closed KMail, waited until the process had completely terminated, and then re-ran it from the command line. Everything seemed fine for a few minutes, but then when I looked at mail in a different folder I got the dreaded "Retrieving Folder Contents" again (and also "org.kde.pim.messagelist: Circular reference loop detected in the message tree") logged multiple times to the console.

I tried restarting KMail once more for good measure (which I now had to first kill using ^\), same deal. Worked for a moment, and then went back to the "org.kde.pim.messagelist: Circular reference loop detected in the message tree" errors printed to the console (with the occasional "org.kde.pim.messagelist: Circular In-Reply-To reference loop detected in the message tree" printed as well).

Finally, I ran `akonadictl stop`, ran `akonadictl status` until everything was showing "stopped", and then `akonadictl start`. Waited about 30 seconds and then tried KMail again... and now it finally seems to be working properly. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

[Edit: and confirming that with this, sending and receiving new mail is also working]
