[solved] Printer error: job is done but nothing is printed at all

I installed a HP LaserJet p1606d printer with the ppd downloaded from openprinting database. The installation was done without any error. But when I try to print a self-test page, comes a very slow data sending then the printer blinks as if it receives datas, but nothing happens and CUPS messages "job compleetd". There is no error message in CUPS either in journals. The toner is nearly fresh, so the inklevel cannot be low. How can I find out, what is happening then?

Is something interesting in /var/log/cups/ ?

Thanks for all help. I tried to use the hplip package, which said I have a missing plugin. I allowed it download, since then all is working fine.
