[SOLVED] PCI device for WiFi card suddenly disappeared

Hey all,

The WiFi card on my laptop suddenly disappeared and was working fine yesterday, with no upgrades inbetween. It's not detected at all, not in `lspci`, not in `lshw`, and loading `iwlwifi` manually does nothing, and the PCI bridge the card was on coincidentally also disappeared.

Is it bad, doctor? Is my old laptop, a trusty companion since 9 years ago, starting to kick the bucket? Any other things I can do to debug if there might be a slim chance that this is a software and not a hardware issue?

Yesterday's boot:

kernel: pci 0000:00:1c.4: bridge window [io 0x1000-0x0fff] to [bus 04-3c] add_size 1000

Today's boot (notice how nothing appeared under "bus 03"):

(edit: obviously I tried rebooting multiple times, even tried using an old arch USB stick I had lying around in case an old kernel wouldn't have the issue, to no avail...)

Re: [SOLVED] PCI device for WiFi card suddenly disappeared

coincidentally also disappeared

Did you attempt a cold reboot, completely power down the system, remove the battery, reset the cmos?
Does the notebook have a hardware radio switch (some lenovo system have, latch at the side or front)?

Re: [SOLVED] PCI device for WiFi card suddenly disappeared

I tried rebooting/powering off various ways, including forced power off. rfkill doesn't list the wifi card anymore and using the "airplane mode" button doesn't do anything. Removing the battery will require me to disassemble the laptop —  I will have to anyway.

Re: [SOLVED] PCI device for WiFi card suddenly disappeared

I have the same issue, this happened after pacman -Syu and kernel ~6.16.x update
Loading Live iso with kernel 6.13.8 though the card is detected and works normally, can connect to wifi from boot.
sleep and wake on laptop makes it load and work normally in latest kernel

"My stuff generically doesn't work but in a totally different way is not "the same issue".
Check your system journal for what's actually going on, in doubt post it in a new thread.

Re: [SOLVED] PCI device for WiFi card suddenly disappeared

Just to give some updates: the WiFi card mysteriously reappeared a few days later without me doing anything (I had switched to wired while at home). I'm still not sure what happened, it seems to be holding fine for now.
