Re: NetworkManager-initrd tries starts despite NetworkManager running

https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/netctl

I found to appreciate being able to monitor network speeds

iw dev wlan0 link | awk '/signal:/{print $2}'
ls /sys/class/net/*/statistics/

Stuff like eg. conky have this built-in, I'm not sure where NM would or could do anything special reg. stats.

I think our generation's just got a little more sophisticated. But on the other hand ... a opportunity is a opportunity tongue

You made me have faith in your generation again <3 . No really, I mean here where I live the kids are so fragile that if uncle seth comes here everyone just start to cry or compliant about it in a very childish and stupid way, In reality the political correctness that started in the last decade and mostly from the US just brain rotted everyone here. So now days mostly nobody would get my monty python jokes. Sniff.

Can I ask why do you believe your generation is a little bit more sophisticated ?

not 100% sure but doing a quick search it seems that prometheus can track network speed. You can use it with grafana to have a  comfy visualization. In arch the prometheus installation is very simple. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Prometheus

Why I run Arch? To "BTW I run Arch" the guy one grade younger.

But does that thing does not log anything to HHD or SSD right ? It more like windows approach of task manager right ? Why are you interested in monitoring traffic ? Why not use btop in that case ?

No logging, it's more or less a task manager (but better OFC). It's one of the few projects I occasionally contribute to.
It can BTW also do per-process usage of cpu, mem, network, drive, gpu and gpu memory, something I appreciate.

Why are you interested in monitoring traffic ?

... Umm, why shouldn't I? it's like seeing CPU usage to determine if something is hogging cycles.

Seems fine smile, pretty neat you do PR on it tongue

Well you got a point, that's truth. But I was more like understanding the main reason behind it, since the prometheus + graphana is very nice. but your are  more like Btop usage, I get it.  In the beginning I was thinking more like probably Jan Luca have some NAS or device where He is liking to log everything that is going through his computer tongue But of course the grafana thing is a overkill to your needs ^^

Maybe I'm /your/ father - you know, who you should ask?
tongue

I mean here where I live the kids are so fragile that if uncle seth comes here everyone just start to cry or compliant about it in a very childish and stupid way

Uncle seth doesn't think this is a generational issue at all.
Uncle seth completely blames social media for this crap.
It just started w/ younger generations because they're natural to that development and don't know a world ante facebook.

When you make any statement that can in any way shape or form be misconstrued, and some million people (can) read that, *someone* is gonna be "offended" because they're generally offended by something and then social dynamics kick in where it takes some adult to tell everyone to get their heads out of their asses and play something else, but the convenient stance is to signal understanding for how this can be offensive and whatnot.
The counter-strategy is to build up victimhood armor, so if somebody doesn't take "your side" in this idiotic game, you can argue how they are being offensive towards you by some random other statement they made a decade ago or so.

I suspect people are like this because it's really the only way to survive in this completely fucked up social media environment.

@jl2, NM isn't a dependency for https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x8 … on-center/ ?
(also it sounds crazy to depend network monitoring on a specific config daemon)

Uncle seth does the right thing.
Uncle seth is based according to kids now days.
Uncle seth abides.
Uncle seth is cool.

Well yeah maybe, I mean I believed that this process has been always there but in someway not so widespread or in a more subtle way. So now days because of social media, the stuff gets amplified to unprecedented levels and widespread. Mostly in newer generations [starting from late millenials], since they don't have the old school treatment in long story short.

But I must say thanks for both of you for let me think about this more. I mean it does help me to realize that there was a little bit of echo chamber inside of me, not by the internet but from where I'm from. So being able to talk with Jan which is just finishing his Matura and saw seth perspective which he is maybe like at least almost 10 years more than I had made me realize that it's not a generational issue at all. In my country I guess is so, and it's so a pain in the ass because many adults just behave in the same idiotic way as kids.  But I must say that when I get to home and start posting here, I can see that the world does still have some nice people around it. Older and I guess more importantly because of the bias, younger ones. So thank so much for that to both of you  ^^ !

The heck, nethogs isn't a optional dep?
https://gitlab.com/mission-center-devs/ … me/Nethogs

(There's quite some fuckup to get it to comply to flatpak rules)

No?
https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/nethogs/
Nor is NM an (optional or hard) dependency for nethogs?
