Mic doesn't work on Dell D820

I cannot seem to get my microphone working. I've read some posts about configuring alsa correctly. However I don't know if changes I make are executed.
See the weird characters in screenshot.

Output is fine further (can listen audio etc).

I already did a reinstall of alsa, but still the same alsa config screen.
