AMD Family 17h/19h HD Audio Stereo mic showing as unplugged (pavu)

Hello!

I checked the forum for all possible threads and solutions and nothing seems to be working, so I created a new thread, so maybe someone could help me.

The computer:
Lenovo IdeaPad 5
AMD Ryzen AI 7
Sound card: Family 17h/19h HD Audio

The issue is that the microphone input is not working. In pavucontrol, I see the Stereo Microphone port volume bar flickering and if I tap the chasis of the laptop, it moves, but the channel shows as Unplugged, so no input.
In alsamixer, I can't control it. The snd_hda_intel driver is loaded correctly.

I don't have any more ideas how to fix it. I saw on here some solutions, but with no luck.

Re: AMD Family 17h/19h HD Audio Stereo mic showing as unplugged (pavu)

Hi,
My laptop is a MECHREVO 15x, and it uses the same audio codec as yours. From your pactl list cards output, I can see:
alsa.mixer_name = "Conexant SN6140"
alsa.components = "HDA:14f11f87,17aa3824,00100100"

This confirms that the codec is Conexant SN6140.
I ran into a different sound issue (not the same as yours), but I found a solution that worked for me here:
? https://askoverflow.dev/ubuntu/question … in-just-a/

Here are the steps I followed:
Run the following command to check the audio codec for your machine:

cat /proc/asound/card*/codec* | grep Codec

You may see something like this (audio and video codecs):
Codec: ATI R6xx HDMI
Codec: Realtek ALC256

Go to the official kernel documentation:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/ … odels.html

Look up the version of your codec and get its full name.
For example, I found this section:
ALC22x/23x/25x/269/27x/28x/29x (and vendor-specific ALC3xxx models)

From the list, I chose laptop-amic.
This allowed my codec to be successfully recognized as Conexant SN6140.
(I didn’t update to the more specific Realtek ALC256 models since those are meant for ASUS and other vendor-specific setups.)

Create or update the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and add this line (replace the model with the one that matches your codec):

options snd-hda-intel model=laptop-amic

Reboot your system.

Re: AMD Family 17h/19h HD Audio Stereo mic showing as unplugged (pavu)

Hello,

sorry my weekend was hectic, didn't manage to get to the computer to test.

Thank you for replying smile

I tested your solution, but with no luck. My codec is Conexant SN6140 and I didn't find it on that list on kernel.org page and I tried some setting from Lenovo and still no luck.

I did however do a little more digging and found that there are already a few bug reports on the same or similar issue, so maybe it will be fixed soon with a new kernel patch.

If somebody has maybe some other idea, please let me know.

Thank you!
