My ASUS laptop is stuck at 0% battery and turns on automatically every time I connect and power on the charger. There are 2 LEDs on the left: white one as power indicator and orange one as charging indicator. Every time I connect and power on the charger the white one lights up, then the orange one but it stays for only a few seconds (like 1-2), then after some time the laptop turns on automatically. If I switch off my charger the laptop shuts down. It's the same in Windows 11 too. Here are some relevant info:

How does it behave when the system isn't running at all?
Have you tried to unplug the battery, wait a bit and re-plug it?
Right now it basically reports as dead.
Ceterum censeo: 3rd link below. Mandatory.
Disable it (it's NOT the BIOS setting!) and reboot windows and linux twice for voodo reasons.

I tried but it didn't solve anything. Also I do have fast-startup disabled. I think the only possibility here is the battery being dead. I am doubtful because my battery was at 70% capacity and in good condition. It all happened within just a night.

The firmware might have died.
How long has it been outside the case?
It all happened within just a night.
Yeah, and 19 years later they graduate… P
Any chance you might have completely discharged it?
The firmware needs some power, if the battery is completely depleted, it will not be able to run the firmware and for precaution not charge either - there're videos on the internet about why…
In that case you can theoretically "shock" it into life by directly applying current but that is pot. VERY DANGEROUS (like "LIFE THREATENING" very dangerous) and in doubt you want to ask some professional with experience and proper equipment to do this.

I think I might have completely drained the battery. And my laptop doesn't have a detachable battery like the older ones, you need to fully pry open it.
Afaik I worked overnight that day and forgot to actually turn it off. But this has happened before where I forgot to turn it off and the next day I had to plug in the charger to turn it on.
But as I said the laptop still turns on and works as expected but needs to be on constant ac supply. I'm not understanding the firmware part here. Do batteries have their separate firmware?

Yes, the charger is "intelligent"
And my laptop doesn't have a detachable battery like the older ones
So you've not actually taken it out of the system at all?
and forgot to actually turn it off
Draining the battery will usually require some defect - either it's completely wrong about its charge or a direct grounding/earthing (India probably uses the wrong kind of English as well )
How does it behave when the system isn't running at all?

Sorry for the late reply. So I went to the service center and they confirmed the battery was dead. I'm still baffled by the quality of the battery, it was just 1.5 years old or so. My friend tortures his Lenovo more that mine. Seems like I'll have to avoid ASUS from next time.
Marking as solved!
