Is there a way to prevent upgrading GNOME and stay in GNOME 48?

I cannot upgrade switch to Wayland due to incompatibilities and other annoyances, so I'm forced to stay with x11.

I've tried adding `gnome-session` and `gnome-shell` to pacman's ignore list, but there're still quite a few packages that are marked for upgrading.

Other than adding all remaining packages with "gnome" in the name, or "49" in its version, is there something we can do to prevent upgrading to gnome 49?

Not really. Arch isn't exactly designed for partial updates.
You could try to get X11 working on 49, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 5#p2263485 (though this might not be possible)
Mid-to-long-term you'll have to look out for a different DE, gnome now wants to drop X11 w/ v50
