I use the French Canadian keyboard (cf) and the last upgrade of Gnome from 48 to 49 caused a strange behavior that I noticed first in gnome-calendar and in gnome-text-editor.
Inputing accented characters with a dead key (` followed by e gives è) didn't work.
The compose key (I use the Menu key for this task) didn't work either, so for example compose key xx gives × but in gnome-calendar 49.0 and in gnome-text-editor 49.0 no character displayed.
I submitted a bug in gnome-text-editor tickets site: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-te … issues/822 and the solution was simply to install the package ibus and restart the PC.
I hope it may help someone.

gnome-shell 49.0-2 fixed the problem by adding ibus as a dependency. Thanks to Arch maintainers for such a rapid solution!
