Sound works, but only temporarily.

I have an issue concerning my speaker. If I go to pavucontrol, for example, and start changing the volume, I get the feedback but after a few second it stops completely and permanently, the feedback bar gets stuck and no sound will ever be played on the system until an output device is change. No errors put up in the journal when this happens, can't figure out how to diagnose this. The system is a laptop with a Celeron processor. Bluetooth audio works, however same thing plagues a headphone connected through a headphone jack, it works for a bit and then just dies. sof-firmware is installed
