I'm searchin' for a flawlessly working soundcard which has SPDIF output and is connected via USB. Recommendations?

I have a Terratec Producer Phase26 USB sound card. S/PDIF works perfectly in Arch Linux. It's intended for use in a semipro home studio though, so it's probably overkill for what you need it for.

I also spotted this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6829102174) at newegg, it has an s/pdif out and only costs $53 USD. No idea whether it works or not but EMU10K cards are very well supported by ALSA so it probably does.

M-Audio Audiophile USB - works great!

Thank you both. I'm not generally turned off higher priced cards since I play some e-guitar in my spare time. I intend to use it primarly on a latop for multimedia use. Well powered, used laptops are so damn cheap and they give a nice multimedia home setup for watching DVD, TV via DVB-s, recording, etc. The only bad thing about them is the built-in sound card.
