I was wondering why Beryl is in extra but Compiz isn't?
I previously used Beryl in my Ubuntu days but with each release it is getting more resource hungry, slower and with more bugs (at least for me) and that's why I stopped using it. Emerald theme manager was really buggy and all I got when I asked for support at thei forums was reinstall beryl or report the bug but the bug was never fixed eventhough it was already reported and even closed. BTW 0.2 final still has the same bug.
Now I use compiz and is faster and less resource hungry. I know it doesn't have every plugin beryl has but I don't care because I don't even use them
.
I know we have compiz in AUR and I build it often but it would be nice to have in an official repository. It will be Ubuntu feisty by default, it also comes with SUSE and Fedora.

If what you say is true, I would also prefer Compiz over beryl.
Beryl seems just way too amateurish, but guess its getting better also.

I'm very happy if TUs or devs will put Compiz in official repo...
And I think that XGL is ready too for official repo.

agreed. i even asked this on irc once.

I use beryl atm and it does its job nicely. On the other hand, it would be nice to have another to choose from. So, I second the compiz.
Actually, beryl is maybe too candy ...

is there a working PKGBUILD on the AUR? If not, please put one there - then we can work on getting it into official repos. A simple request generally isn't enough to get a new package into any of the repos. It's all dependent on time and whether or not someone actually uses it.

There's already an AUR package, and it seems to be up to date.
Was compiz in the repos at one point? I know I've had it installed before, but I can't remember if I had to build it myself or not.

Actually compiz and XGL are on my personal ( and unofficial ) repository.

and... posting your problem and try to fix it? It's really a problem of package?

btw if I remove compiz packages then under /opt/gnome/ect/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/ all the gconf-tree-XX.xml contains previous entries... don't know why.
I'm using aur packages, the ones that were considered "stable" post below

I think with the release 0.4 the packages could be made somewhat more modular. Already in git there is an ini plugin that can be used instead of gconf (e.g. with compiz-settings), getting rid of GNOME dependencies for KDE users. I assume that's something people would be interested in.
Glad to see compiz hit official repos! Beryl has been really unusable for me since day 2 (it worked fine immediately after the fork).

If beryl & compiz re-merge as expected where will this new app go - extra or unstable?
beryl merge with compiz (google)

Compiz 0.5.0 is now under [community].
Please, check if it works fine.
If you have a problem with package ( and NOT configuration problem ) please tell me.
If compiz 0.5.0 is unstable, we can downgrade ad 0.3.6 ( but for me is working well )
Thank you

compiz.install is incorrect... it doesn't install gwd gconf schemas too

Are gconf schemas for compiz being left after uninstall really so urgent to fix? They won't destroy your system.
The fact DaNiMoTh has *kindly* decided to maintain Compiz in the community repository should be more than enough incentive for you to stop being a complete douchebag. Maybe you should give it more than 12 hours to be fixed, you're not exactly paying him. =/

1593 lines! This almost 2000 lines!
What is bloat doing in my computers! I clarifications and fixes now.
Apology must be made! I await!

Cimi: It is a pacman problem, not package problem. Pacman 3.0.0 and 3.0.1 seems to ignore pre_remove and post_remove instructions on *.install files.
I see that you're italian ( Only italian posts messages localizied it_IT in eng forums ). I'll be happy if you, wheater you want, can talk about this problem ( and your conception of how a TU does work ) on IRC archlinux italian channel ( I don't like flames on forum ).
klapmuetz: My apologies to your hard-disk.. I know that 2000 useless lines stored take ~ 10 Kb.. and for modern computers are so much

there were a misunderstanding... i NEVER wanted to criticize danimoth work or every TU.
I've just posted 2 bugs to help him improving that package... in a fun way.
I'm sorry if you thought I was nervous about this or if i was criticizing someone.
I've thought that syaing "oh 1593 lines
" was not offensive and friendly
Cheers

? haven't understood... are you feel irritated by my last bugreport? the main intention was not to criticize you but to expose the problem in a friendly way.
I'm sorry if that was not gathered
