[SOLVED] Steam instantly closing after launch and not working Wayland

Ive started using arch, and first installed all the necessities, and then installed steam, ever since I've been having many problems.
- Instantly closes, when I type 

steam

into the term, it just instantly stops and brings me back to the default prompt.
- It started working but randomly crashes
- Stopped working after I opened it once using wofi

(Presumably) Needed Information:
AMD GPU 7900xt
AMD CPU 7800x3d
32 GB DDR5 G.Skill
Drivers/needed packages installed

So, I would like to know how to get steam to work from wofi & the terminal, and If I should use xwayland or not.

What's the output of the logs located at ~/.steam/steam/logs/ ?

How did you Install Steam, through pacman's multilib or Flatpak?
What Wayland Compositor (Or Desktop Environment/Window Manager) are you using?

Typically, when installing Steam through pacman, a .desktop file is left on the desktop. Did you try launching Steam that way or are you just trying to type "steam" in the Terminal?

If you're not having fun, what's the point of being an Enthusiast? :3

I am using hyprland and waybar, and ive tried to launch from wofi and typing steam into terminal and also from an xwayland instance (currently its just default tho)
I installed steam through pacman

IDK if this matters but im in the US, 

cat /tmp/steam.out

returns nothing
and 

nano /tmp/steam.out

also opens an empty file
this was done after running steam in terminal

glxgears and glxinfo both output this:

That's bad, afaik steam still only runs on X11/xwayland.
Please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General (you should have one from the xwayland invocation) and test the steam behavior on an actual X11 session (eg. openbox will do)

Thanks for your reply,

To add to the strangeness, i just installed and switched to openbox, then switched back to hyprland after a reboot. steam magically worked again. i can only imagine its because of some openbox dependency

Check /var/log/pacman.log for what was actually installed.

(See https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 8#p2269158 for kinda what you'd expect - and look for a way to upload that. "tee" would copy it into the file. Fwwi, trying to upload /dev/null actually results in 451 - probably on the assumption that the big beautiful wall has dropped the traffic wink)

btw I am dual booting windows (which does have steam installed aswell) on a different drive using os prober

after reboot it seems to be working, IDK what happened. I have updated it with pacman -Syu and it seems to be working

after a bit of doing things I've seen that steam opens with 

steam

but not with wofi

ok after some looking through the .desktop files, the one in ~/.local/share/applications is false, and is running steam %U instead of /usr/bin/steam %U

Should I mark post [SOLVED] ?

OK, found another problem and now steam works flawlessly. Steam was leaving open background processes, and steam refused to launch. So here is the script I used:

pkill -9 -f '/home/bence/.local/share/Steam'

export XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland
export QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland
export SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland
export CLUTTER_BACKEND=wayland
export GDK_BACKEND=wayland

export STEAM_FORCE_DESKTOPUI_SCALING=1

exec /usr/bin/steam "$@"

And then in your local steam.desktop file replace Exec=/usr/bin/steam with this script
