Audio stopped working with Chrome, works fine with Firefox

I have an Arch-based laptop that I keep up to date with the latest version. of Chrome. Yesterday I discovered numerous problems with audio playback:

- Usually audio is muted. Sometimes it works but rarely, unpredictable.
- I can usually play audio from youtube videos, but audio from links in news sites etc don't play
- I used amixer and alsamixer to make sure nothing is muted.
- I can play individual sound files (like wav etc) no problem.
- I can play any video using Firefox, but the same link using Chrome doesn't work, as described above.
- My Chrome is Version 142.0.7444.134 (Official Build) (64-bit)
- Clicking video links using Chrome either results in no audio or some kind of error reported by the link. Again, Firefox has no such issues.
- I checked dmesg and journalctl, I see nothing relevant reported.

I haven't touched anything in my system lately. I explored all the site-specific settings in Chrome, but I see nothing that could cause this.
Has anyone else had issues with Chrome recently?
Any suggestions what could be causing this?

Thanks.
