Lenovo laptop instantly wakes from suspend

I’ve been troubleshooting a suspend/resume issue on my Lenovo laptop running Arch Linux. When I trigger suspend manually (systemctl suspend), the system immediately wakes up within 1–2 seconds.
Model: Lenovo laptop (Ideapad series)
GPU: Intel HD 620 + NVIDIA GeForce 940MX
Kernel:6.12.57-1-lts

Display server: Wayland
Session: Hyprland
Firmware: Latest BIOS
Bootloader: GRUB
ACPI module: ideapad_laptop loaded

Re: Lenovo laptop instantly wakes from suspend

I had pretty the same: On a new device (LENOVO X13, Gen. 6) I installed MANJARO and found, that Suspend and Hibernate are not working: The user gets logged out, the screen gets black for a short time and returns then to Log-In - Screen again. I tried the standard install (use complete drive) once with Partition for SWAP / Resume and once with SWAP-file, both having the same issue.

Re: Lenovo laptop instantly wakes from suspend

Please post your complete system journal for the boot after a spurious wakeup

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

and also the output of

cat /proc/acpi/wakeup

Re: Lenovo laptop instantly wakes from suspend

System enters S3, wakes up 5s later
No spurious interrupts, no signs of a parallel OS.

XHC S3	*enabled pci:0000:00:14.0
RP01 S3	*enabled pci:0000:00:1c.0
RP05 S3	*enabled pci:0000:00:1c.4
RP06 S3	*enabled pci:0000:00:1c.5

Those are USB and three PCIe root ports, try to disable them all.

echo XHC | sudo tee /proc/acpi/wakeup

will toggle XHC
Your wifi is behind RP06, some camera and bluetooth behind XHC

Re: Lenovo laptop instantly wakes from suspend

Can you get the system to enter and stay in s2idle?

no signs of a parallel OS

You're not dual-booting by switching drives or something like that?

Re: Lenovo laptop instantly wakes from suspend

No, it’s a single-boot Arch install — no Windows or other OS involved.

Here’s the current mem_sleep state:
$ cat /sys/power/mem_sleep
s2idle [deep]

I switched temporarily to s2idle using:
echo s2idle | sudo tee /sys/power/mem_sleep

After that, the system successfully suspended and stayed asleep — no instant wakeups.

how should i fix it ?

Re: Lenovo laptop instantly wakes from suspend

Are there any UEFI updates available for the system?
You could try to lie to the firmware and pretend to be windows and see whether that has any impact:

acpi_osi=! acpi_osi="Windows 2015"

Re: Lenovo laptop instantly wakes from suspend

You could try some other windows version (preferably the one the notebook came with) but in doubt will have to resort to s2idle
Does that even have significantly higher battery draw?

Re: Lenovo laptop instantly wakes from suspend

The root cause turned out to be leftover NVIDIA components being auto-initialized even though the GPU was not in use. Packages like nvidia-dkms, nvidia-utils, and linux-firmware-nvidia were still injecting modules into the initramfs. A file at /usr/lib/modules-load.d/nvidia-utils.conf forced the UVM module to load early, and bbswitch also conflicted with runtime power management. This partial initialization put the NVIDIA GPU into an invalid power state where ACPI could not maintain S3 sleep.

The fix was to completely remove every NVIDIA-related component and clean the initramfs. I removed nvidia-dkms, nvidia-utils, linux-firmware-nvidia, all EGL NVIDIA backends, libxnvctrl, and unregistered both bbswitch and NVIDIA DKMS modules. The NVIDIA module autoload file under /usr/lib/modules-load.d was also removed. After rebuilding initramfs with mkinitcpio -P and rebooting, neither nvidia nor nouveau were loaded and the NVIDIA PCI device remained unbound.

After fully removing NVIDIA and its supporting components, S3 suspend started working normally again. The system now enters and stays in deep sleep with no instant wakeups. ACPI wake events behave correctly, and the machine wakes only via the power button. The issue was entirely caused by residual NVIDIA driver components interfering with ACPI power transitions on this hybrid laptop.

Re: Lenovo laptop instantly wakes from suspend

Ah, you didn't rebuild the initramfs after removing those.
The problem would then have been that the nvidia modules loaded but the userspace services for VRAM preservation were no longer available.

A problem w/ that explanation is however that there're no traces of  the nvidia drivers in https://clbin.com/uV4ib at all.

Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.
