since about 2 months during which i already installed several updates (pacman -Syu), in vain hoping the problem goes away: screenshot no longer works.
i can do one but when i do 'save screenshot' the requester greys out and does nothing. it hangs.
at least on the title line of the requester i can right click and chose 'close'.
any idea please what's wrong?

Do you get any glycin related errors resp. does it work when you install https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gdk-pixbuf2-noglycin and https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/librsvg-noglycin ?
Offline
i don't see any glycin related errors.
to install ..noglycin would require these dependencies (121 MB download):
Packages (18) compiler-rt-21.1.5-1 docbook-xml-4.5-11 docbook-xsl-1.79.2-9 glib2-docs-2.86.1-1 gtk-doc-1.35.1-1 lld-21.1.5-1 python-lxml-6.0.2-1 python-magic-1:0.4.27-5 python-mako-1.3.10-1 python-markdown-3.10.0-1 python-smartypants-2.0.2-1 python-typogrify-2.1.0-1 cargo-c-0.10.18-1 gi-docgen-2025.5-1 gobject-introspection-1.86.0-1 llvm-21.1.5-1 rust-1:1.91.1-2 vala-0.56.18-5
to avoid this, I'd instead rather like to install an alternative (lightweight) screenshot utility.

mate-screenshot does that print anything when failing to save a screenshot?
Do you get any xdg-desktop-portal related errors in the system journal?

That line is uncritical and irrelevant.
Please post your complete system journal for the boot:
sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.stafter attempting to save a screenshot.

Disable systemd-networkd
There's no trace of the screenshot tool, all portal messages concern the screensaver - I don't think this has anyhing to do w/ glycin or portals.
Does the screenshot tool work for a fresh user?
mate-screenshotdoes that print anything when failing to save a screenshot?
Edit: this isn't you?

Please don't bump, edit your previous post it nobody has yet replied.
You can also disable the socket but fwwi I doubt this is the cause of the problem at hand.
Then please check what happens when running mate-screenshot from the commandline.

$ systemctl disable systemd-networkd-varlink.socket
$ systemctl disable systemd-networkd.socket

You don't have to excuse yourself - this is async by nature.
Tomorrow run
