Multi-Monitor Issue GNOME Wayland + NVIDIA: Second Screen stays blank

Hardware/Software

  • CPU: Ryzen 5800X

  • GPU: RTX 3080

  • Graphics Driver: nvidia 580.105.08-4

  • Display Server Protocol: Wayland

  • DE:GNOME 49.2

  • Monitors: 1. DELL S2719DGF; 2. G9 LC49G95T

The issue occurs specifically when the monitors enters power-saving mode, triggered by the time set in the GNOME "Screen Blank" power settings. System suspend  is deactivated in the settings. After the set idle time, both screens turn off and enter a power-saving state. When the system is woken up (by mouse or keyboard), only one monitor wakes up correctly and displays the lock screen. The G9 remains blank. The LED indicator on the G9 switches from blinking (power-saving state) to solid on state, indicating that the graphics card might successfully signal the monitor to power on, but no image is being displayed.

Problem does not occur when using KDE Plasma on Wayland.

Temporary Workaround: switching between TTY and back. Upon returning from the TTY, the lock screen loses the blurred wallpaper and reverts to a plain gray background (like the initial login screen after boot).

Here is my config:
/etc/mkinitcpio.conf:

MODULES=(nvidia nvidia_modeset nvidia_uvm nvidia_drm); HOOKS=(base udev autodetect microcode keyboard keymap consolefont modconf kms block encrypt filesystems fsck)

/etc/default/grub:

nvidia-drm.modeset=1 nvidia.NVreg_EnableGpuFirmware=0 nvidia_drm.fbdev=1

Nvidia Params:

PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations: 1

I would be grateful for any insights or recommended permanent configurations to resolve this wake-up failure.

Re: Multi-Monitor Issue GNOME Wayland + NVIDIA: Second Screen stays blank

Okay, today I found out more or less by accident that this issue doesn't occur when I limit the monitor to 120Hz in the OSD menu and also set 120Hz in the GNOME settings. Only the G9 is set to 120Hz; the other monitor can be at 144Hz with no problems. I'm more confused than before, and I’d really appreciate any help, tips, or suggestions on what to try next or what the problem could be.
