If for some reason the actual binary is gone or broken I guess you can re-download it here: ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/current/os/i686 … pkg.tar.gz
Offline
follow the instructions here to install pacman.

Guess what- saying 'pacman broken' is not going to get you a whole lot of help here.
What is 'broken'? Can you give an error message? Can you tell us anything?
Have you tried using pacman.static to either revert pacman or reinstall pacman 3.0? And please don't infer that because you switched to pacman 3.0 RC2 that it is bad software and it broke your computer. Plenty of us have had no problems with it, and that is a bit discouraging to developers.

I did not understand that as a complaint on RC2 (running fine here, btw). However, I would love to hear the answer to his question - how to install pacman without pacman? Commercial distros usually have a kind of "repair function" in their installer, so you just use the original CD. But how is the trick done in Arch?

sorry for last post.

Installing pacman without pacman:
1. Manually download the pacman package from ftp.archlinux.org or another mirror.
2. Unzip this package to /tmp/ or somewhere else.
3. Use pacman.static from the package to do your (recovery) work, such as running ./pacman.static -Sy pacman.

Thanks
My pacman isn't broken, but it is re-assuring to know the answer.

First off, glad you got pacman running again with an older version.
Secondly, it's not a bother if you've actually found a bug in pacman3 - the problem is that without more information it's difficult to fix.
Useful information you could give if this happens again:
1) What do you mean by "broken"? Does it not run at all? Can the binary not be found? I understand English isn't your first language - you can try typing in your first language and translating using http://babelfish.altavista.com - that might help.
2) What does it say when you try to run the broken pacman? Nothing? Some error message? That would be very helpful.
3) Exactly what version are you running? pacman-3.0.0-rc2 I assume from your posts.
Basically, you can never give "too much" information - the more the better.
