After an upgrade I now cannot use my monitors for HDMI sound output. I am using an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 card.
pavucontrol used to also show the HDMI option but now doesn't (forgot what it is called). There I could change sound output to the monitors.
pactl list cardsshows the webcam, onboard sound card and usb connected soundcard but not the nvidia/hdmi card.

640x350 59.28 Switching between the normal and lts kernel has no effect. Switching between pipewire and pulseaudio also has no effect.
I have seen some suggesting downgrading the kernel but before doing that I wonder if there are known issues with regards to this problem. Any help is appreciated.

What packages were upgraded? See /var/log/pacman.log - Perhaps also upload it here, see the link in my signature.
Can you upload a full journal for the boot? 'journalctl -b 0"
Why I run Arch? To "BTW I run Arch" the guy one grade younger.
And to let my siblings and cousins laugh at Arsch Linux...

In the mean time I updated again to check whether updated packages would resolve the issue but hope this does not interfere. Also, I have been installing open webui which required some specific nvidia package nvidia-smi. Not sure if this could also interfere or even be the cause.

[2025-12-16T09:38:29+0100] [ALPM] reinstalled alsa-lib (1.2.15-1)alsa-lib 1.2.15 currently has a bug, either downgrade or wait for 1.2.15.1

Solved. The bug in alsa-lib was indeed the cause. For posterity, these are the commands I used to downgrade alsa-lib:
sudo pacman -U file:///var/cache/pacman/pkg/lib32-alsa-lib-1.2.14-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
sudo pacman -U file:///var/cache/pacman/pkg/alsa-lib-1.2.14-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.zstThe first command was necessary because of a dependency required by alsa-lib.
I will wait for 1.2.15.1 to become available.
