Your system likely lacks proper DirectX 12 support in Wine/Proton. Use a recent Proton version like GE-Proton 10-28 or newer and ensure your GPU drivers are fully up to date. Also, set DXVK_HUD=1 to check if Vulkan is working and make sure Vulkan drivers for your GPU are installed (vulkan-radeon for AMD, vulkan-intel for Intel). This should restore DX12 compatibility and reduce lag.

May I ask why Wine/Proton could drop out DirectX 12 API support ? Seems DirectX 12 & ultimate had been around a while ago. Should be DXVK do the work in any case of the API translation ?
str( @soyg ) == str( @potplant ) btw!

from what I understand wine/proton still require dxvk/vkd3d to be available to do the actual translation - dxvk/vkd3d isn't part of wine/proton itself but "plugins" without them wine/proton can't do any directX -> vulkan translation at all ... at least that's what I get - but could also i'm completely wrong

These translation layers are part of proton, they are not part of standard wine, installing said AUR package will make the VKD3D that's bundled in proton available for standard wine.
Which GPU and which graphics driver are you talking about Snoffin? If you are on Pascal or Maxwell make sure you've seen: https://archlinux.org/news/nvidia-590-d … l-modules/

thanks for the expplanation - fits my issue as when it happened to me for some reason lutris tried to use standard wine instead of proton and hence required the additional package
today i learned
