[Solved] Internet troubles with some websites when connected to a Wifi

Hello everyone,

I'm encountering a quite strange issue with my internet access.

First of all, context : I'm an "advanced n00b", I learned some stuff by tweaking and encountering problems. But I'm not a real computer specialist, and particularly, I've not particular knowledge or experience with networking/firewall management or stuff like that.
Running Archlinux with bspwm. Pacman/Chaotic/Yay/Flatpaks up to date as I speak.
Obviously, if I'm posting here, it is because I didn't find this kind of issues already addressed. Obviously too, I may have miss something, and if this thread is a redundancy, I sincerely apologize.

So my issue is the following :
I'm back at my parent's place for the holidays, and they have an internet box AND a wi-fi repeater (a Netgear 5GEXT). When I'm connected directly to the internet box, everything seems to work well. But when I'm connected to the repeated network, **some** sites or software are not working anymore.
These things that are not working anymore include, but may not be limited to :
- Betterbird sending messages (SMTP connection issues. Interestingly, the mails are still incoming well)
- Access to some websites like banking/cloud services/Proton services/professional services/linguee(!)

Considering that the problem is impacting my mail client, I guess it is not a problem linked with my browser's proxy settings, but both Floorp and Mercury aren't able to connect those websites.

I have no clue of what to search, and specially what kind of piece of information I should bring here to help you guys understand what is going on.
The error-messages I have are "Unable to connect - Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at protonmail.com. -   The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. -    If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection. -     If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Floorp is permitted to access the web." for net browsing and
"SMTP connection failure" for mail client (not the original message, but I translated it roughly from my language).

Any idea about the origin of the problem of the way I could try to fix it?

Thank you very much for the time you invested in reading this.
Merry holidays to you folks,
K.

Re: [Solved] Internet troubles with some websites when connected to a Wifi

this sounds like an issue with the repeater itself

first step: these devices usually have a small hole protecting a reset button - some even have a web-interface for management
as the issue seems to be limited to the repeater in order to eliminate it from the equation first remove it completely - if all works well without it chances quite hogh the repeater is the issue
next step: fully factory reset the repeater - lookup its name and model to get a manual how to do it
if tge issue is gone - fine - if it persists: ditch the repeater and buy a new one
