Poor performance on KDE Plasma with NVIDIA GPU

Hello, I am using KDE Plasma and Wayland session, the latest version of the open NVIDIA driver. RTX 4090
Everything works fine when I boot up the system. However, if I continue working: opening many tabs in the browser, working in the IDE, etc., my desktop starts to lag.
About every 10 seconds I see micro-freezes on screen, YouTube videos lagging, the applications lags when I click on something, It's very annoying.
I used to apply a fix by setting the GPU idle clock speed to 2100 MHz, but this significantly increases power consumption and raises the core temperature, + it works if a few apps running, not many.
Maybe anyone knows how to fix it without switching to X11 session? Or it's kinda impossible to use KDE + Wayland + NVidia?

Re: Poor performance on KDE Plasma with NVIDIA GPU

My experience with x11 is even worse on a 4060, way worse than my intel Igp.

I'd say use the integrated chip for desktop and nvidia for heavy tasks via prime render offload if possible. Expecially if you care about power consumption.

Re: Poor performance on KDE Plasma with NVIDIA GPU

KDE has always had issues with the Animations/Desktop Effects, ever since they were introduced into KDE.

Yes YMMV and many people may never run into issues, but I've seen them for years.

And now with Nvidia/Wayland, well that in itself is bad enough.

I was actually just chatting to someone a week or two ago, lagging issues too.

SO, try and disable all the Animations Desktop Effects...

I also mask all these nvidia services, they've been known to cause issues, and I personally don't use or need them.

sudo systemctl mask nvidia-hibernate.service
sudo systemctl mask nvidia-resume.service
sudo systemctl mask nvidia-suspend.service
