Waydroid not working on Arch Linux (KDE Plasma, NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super)

Post:
Hello everyone,

I’m running Arch Linux with KDE Plasma (Wayland) and I’m trying to get Waydroid working, but I’m having issues.

My setup:

Arch Linux (fully updated)

KDE Plasma (Wayland session)

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super

NVIDIA proprietary drivers

Waydroid starts, but Android apps either fail to launch or graphics acceleration does not work properly. From what I understand, Waydroid relies heavily on GBM / Mesa for GPU acceleration, which seems to cause problems on NVIDIA GPUs.

I would like to ask:

Is there any working solution to run Waydroid properly on Arch with NVIDIA GPUs?

Are there any known workarounds (software rendering, experimental GBM support, patches, etc.)?

Or is Waydroid currently not supported / not recommended on NVIDIA hardware?

Any advice, experience, or confirmation would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Waydroid not working on Arch Linux (KDE Plasma, NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super)

Waydroid does not use hardware acceleration with NVIDIA, and the devs say this is because the drivers don't use Google's libc and are not supported by Mesa.

See https://github.com/waydroid/waydroid/issues/278 and https://github.com/waydroid/waydroid/issues/1883

You can use it on NVIDIA, but it will be full software-rendering on the CPU (which tanks a lot on the performance), unless you have a secondary non-NVIDIA GPU available (AMD, Intel).
